1. THE BAREFOOT RUNNNERS OF SAN SALVATORE
Hundreds of faithful of Cabras, on the first Sunday of September gather together to bring the simulacrum of San Salvatore in a running procession. For about 7 Km through dirt paths the statue of the saint is carried on the shoulder by hundreds of barefoot runners, dressed in the traditional white habit. At the end of the day, the participants in the race, the faithful and the tourists all celebrate together, watching fireworks and music and participating in the tasting of typical products.
2. SA COJA ANTIGA CEREXINA – THE OLD MARRIAGE OF SELARGIUS
If you want to experience one of the oldest events in Sardinia this is certainly one of the most exciting. The ritual of the ancient marriage of Selargius re-enacts the customs of an entire village when the marriage between two young people represented a feast not only for the family but for the whole community. Even today the tradition lives on with a long and carefully prepared ritual in many small details. The spouses walk in chains along the streets of the town followed by the entire population dressed in traditional Sardinian costume. The exhibition that every year shows the oldest activities and crafts of Sardinia. Every weekend from September to December one of the 30 villages of Barbagia will become Cortes Apertas where their homes and courtyards will be opened to the public to learn about their traditions.
