​Porto Conte Nature Park covers a vast area north of Alghero with a surface area of 5,000 hectares. Activities offered include hiking and biking, bird watching, kayaking and diving. Two of the most important archaeological sites in Alghero are the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju and the Nuragic village of Palmavera. The pre-Nuragic necropolis contains over 40 shaft tombs carved into rock, dating from between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. Numerous evidences of the daily life of the ancient inhabitants of the area have been found in the tombs, such as pottery, stone and metal objects.

The nuragic village of Palmavera is one of the most impressive sites in Sardinia. It dates back to the period between the 15th and 7th centuries BC and is considered one of the most important examples of Nuragic architecture on the island.
